Lakeside Home, Grounded In Oak And Stone

The owners wanted one continuous feeling from the front step to the back deck: a hand-laid tile entrance that could take wet boots, flowing into solid oak that warms every living space. We fitted 140 square metres across two floors in nine working days.

Challenge & approach

Marrying Tile To Timber Without A Trip Lip

Tile and oak build at different heights, and the entrance takes the worst of the weather. We poured a feathered screed ramp beneath the tile bed so both surfaces meet dead flush, then sealed the oak with a matte lacquer rated for grit and moisture.
