A weekend retreat in the hills needed floors that feel like a lodge but cope with being shut up cold for weeks. We fitted oiled walnut-effect planks with stable cores, plus stone-look tile in the mudroom for boots and dogs.

Challenge & approach
Stable Through Freeze And Thaw
Unheated winters punish real timber, so we specified dimensionally stable engineered cores with a thick walnut wear layer — all the depth of solid wood, none of the seasonal movement. Every plank was acclimated on site for a full week first.
